About Bakebound

Where the bakery list comes from.

Bakebound is a guide to 44 source-checked bread counters, pastry shops and neighbourhood bakehouses in 25 towns, covering every state and territory in Australia. It is meant for planning your next stop, with each bakery's own words about what comes out of its ovens.

From place record to listing

Each bakery came to us as an open place record, many from Overture Maps. It was only published once its own website confirmed the bakery's name, its town and that it bakes. When the evidence disagreed with itself, the record stayed out. We ran those checks in September 2026.

Eleven bakeries put a menu or product list on their website, and their pages carry those headings. Twenty-two print a phone number, and you will find it on their page. Bakebound shows no star ratings of its own and no review text; listings show Google ratings and review counts and are ranked by them.

The order you see

Bakeries are ranked by Google review count. A town page is put forward to search engines when it gathers three or more bakeries; the ranked city pages that do are listed below. The rest of the town pages remain open and are linked from locations.

What we do not cover

We do not take cake orders, review cafes or restaurants, or share recipes. Prices change too often to publish without a source, so check them with the bakery; where a profile shows opening hours, they are taken from the bakery's public map listing as held in our data, and the profile names the month.

Keeping a listing right

If a bakery has closed, moved or would like to be removed, email hello@bakebound.com.au with the listing link and a source for the change. Removal requests on our records are applied whenever the list is rebuilt. We do not pass orders or questions to bakeries. Place data is credited on the data licences page.

How listings are ranked

Ranked by the number of Google reviews: the business with the most reviews comes first, and where two have the same number the higher rating leads. The ratings are Google's figures as held in our data in October 2026, not an assessment by Bakebound. Businesses without a Google rating follow the ranked list, alphabetically. The directory page ranks every business Bakebound holds, and each city page ranks the businesses in that city. Each city page shows its most-reviewed 100 as cards and the next 200 in a compact ranked list below them, and a city with more continues on numbered pages of 250; the directory page shows its most-reviewed 100 as cards and the rest of the 2,000 most-reviewed in a compact list.

Businesses from public map listings

Bakebound also holds 6,010 bakeries taken from their public map listings, as held in our data in October 2026, ranked alongside the source-checked listings and marked "Public map listing". A business is included only with at least five Google reviews, a primary category that matches this directory, and a location that can be placed from its own address or map coordinates. A business on our removal list is never included. These businesses have not been read against their websites. Each has a profile (6,010 in all) showing its name, suburb, listed type, Google rating with the review count and the city page it is ranked on, with a link to its own website or its Google Maps listing. Where our data holds them, a profile also shows the services the business's own website lists and an ABN matched on the Australian Business Register. Where the public map listing holds them, a profile also shows the business's street address, phone number and opening hours (the street address for businesses that trade from premises), as held in our data.
